MiDAS Training

What is MiDAS?

MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme and is administered by the Community Transport Association. The scheme is available to any organisation operating or using minibuses and provides a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers and has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.

Who may need a MiDAS certificate?

Currently, if the minibus is not for ‘hire or reward’, drivers who have passed their driving tests before 1997 are allowed to drive a minibus using their D1 driving license; some minibuses can be driven using a full car license, provided conditions are followed.

Where minibus drivers do not need to undergo professional training as commercial PSV drivers do, MiDAS is often adopted as a good practice. Organisations that train their drivers in MiDAS range from small voluntary organisations with one vehicle, to local authorities operating large fleets of minibuses as well as schools, colleges and universities.

The MiDAS qualification (a certificate is awarded) lasts for four years.

What can we do for you?

We’re able to provide MiDAS training for staff and volunteers operating minibuses, or individuals who may need a certificate as part of their job requirement. We offer both MiDAS induction and refresher training.

The MiDAS training consists of both theory and practical sessions, to equip trainees with adequate knowledge, boost trainees’ confidence of driving and ensure trainees possess the driving skills needed for passenger transport.

How much does it cost (ex VAT)?

  • Standard MiDAS training (Induction / Refresher) – One-day course: £100 per delegate.
  • Accessible module training – Day 2: £50 (+ VAT) per delegate.
